Michael and I had been to Germany several times before this trip. But this is the first time we ventured to her capital city, BERLIN. What an amazing, upbeat, eclectic city reflecting the most incredible art and architecture, while stressing her dark, apologetic past. Sailing along the Elbe River towards the Czech Republic…Prague specifically, we enjoyed the views of wide open land used primarily for farming. We stopped in several small, charming towns: Dresden and Meissen (both well known for their fine porcelain,) Torgau, Wittenberg and Bad Schandau, visiting the busy Christmas Markets in each…living a fairytale as the eye candy was magical, expecially during the holiday season.
Finally arriving in Prague…a most beautiful city in the Czech Republic…the last time we were here, it wasn’t particularly busy as it wasn’t holiday time. This “city of a hundred spires” is best known for its old town square, the heart of its historic core with colourful baroque buildings; Gothic churches; the medieval Astronomical clock completed in 1410 and the pedestrian Charles Bridge, lined with statues of Catholic saints.
